The Last Session - Darren Day stars
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
DARREN Day will star in the European premiere of the multi award-winning musical The Last Session, which runs at the Tristan Bates Theatre from September 25 to October 27, 2012.
The Last Session is set in 1996 in a music studio, where singer-songwriter Gideon (Day) holds one last session to record the most important album of his life.
Living in an era when treatment for AIDS was still largely experimental, Gideon is sick of and sickened by the treatments and by the disease. To show his undying love to his partner, he plans to record a musical love letter. For this last session, he links up with some old friends and musicians and one unexpected visitor, for whom Gideon’s sexuality changes everything.
The Last Session is described as a rollercoaster of passion, emotions, hope and humour. It’s a story of a man’s past and his hunt for a future – a reason to live.
The Last Session has a book by Jim Brochu and music and lyrics by Steve Schalchlin.
Daren Day’s theatre credits include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (West End and national tour) and We Will Rock You, The Rocky Horror Show and Hello Dolly! (on tour). On television, he played Danny Houston in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks.
