The Lyons - Isla Blair and Nicholas Day complete cast

Casting news

ISLA Blair and Nicholas Day complete the cast for the European premiere of Nicky Silver’s play,The Lyons, which runs at the Menier Chocolate Factory from September 19 to November 16, 2013.

They will be joining the previously announced Tom Ellis, Katy Secombe, Charlotte Randle and Ben Aldridge.

In this American hit comedy, The Lyons have gathered around the hospital bed of their dying father Ben. However, surface compassion soon gives way to bickering, sniping and betraying each other’s secrets.

This exploration of a fractured family is billed as being as savagely funny as it is heart-breaking.

Isla Blair is well known for her extensive stage work, which includes Steel Magnolias (UK tour), Collaborators (Duchess Theatre), The History Boys (Wyndham’s Theatre), Breath of Life (Sheffield Lyceum) and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (both the original West End production and the National Theatre revival).

In 2008, she starred as Raisa Gorbachev in Penny Gold’s The President’s Holiday at Hampstead Theatre alongside her real life husband Julian Glover, who played Mikhail Gorbachev. They also worked together, again as husband and wife, in the 1989 film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Nicholas Day’s theatre work includes Cardenio and The City Madam (RSC), The Iceman Cometh (Almeida Theatre and Old Vic) and Dealer’s Choice and the David Hare Trilogy (National Theatre). His numerous television credits include Rosemary and Thyme, Foyle’s War, Doc Martin, New Tricks and Minder.
