Previously Posted: The world premiere of The Magic Flute – Impempe Yomlingo, adapted from Mozart by Mark Dornford-May, runs at the Young Vic from November 23, 2007 to January 19, 2008.

The Magic Flute is a story about the trials of life – of growing up, finding the love of your life, and learning to be wise. It’s an adventure and a fairy story, a comedy and a drama, and it’s all set to glorious music but performed as it’s never been heard before – the South African way, complete with thirty five singers, marimbas, drums and township percussion.

With a modern township background, the show is performed in the languages of South Africa and English and features Pauline Malefane, star of the Berlin Film Festival, Golden Bear-winning film U-Carmen (2005).

Mark Dornford-May also directs The Magic Flute which has words and music by Mandisi Dyantyis, Mbali Kgosidintsi, Pauline Malefane and Nolufefe Mtshabe.

Suitable for ages 10 and over.

Tickets for The Magic Flute at the Young Vic are currently sold out although returns are usually available for cash immediately prior to each performance.

The Magic Flute runs in repertoire with A Christmas Carol – Ikrismas Kherol which is performed by the same company.
