The Mikado - Union Theatre
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
FOLLOWING the success of H.M.S. Pinafore, Annie Get Your Gun and The Pyjama Game, the Union Theatre is presenting an all-male version of The Mikado – from Wednesday, July 23 to Saturday, August 16, 2008.
The most popular Gilbert and Sullivan opera and arguably the most popular opera ever written, The Mikado‘s score has been delighting audiences for more than a century. It includes songs such as Three Little Maids.
The cast of fourteen will be elegantly dressed in silk kimonos and choreographed by Vanessa Fenton, a member of The Royal Ballet Company, who has previously won the Kenneth MacMillan Choreographic Award, 2nd Prize in the Prise Ursula Moreton Award and The Promis Award.
Following The Mikado, Fenton will be returning to The Royal Opera House to dance in Swan Lake.
The Mikado is directed by Thom Southerland, with musical direction by Christopher Peake, design by Alison Brookes and lighting design by Steve Miller. Associate producer is Poppy Ben David.
Tickets: £15 (concessions available), all tickets £10 on Wednesday.
Times: Wednesday to Saturday at 7.30pm; matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 3pm.
