The Misanthrope - further casting announced

KELLY Price, Nicholas Le Prevost and Chuk Iwuji will appear alongside Keira Knightley, Damian Lewis, Tara Fitzgerald, Dominic Rowan and Tim McMullan in The Misanthrope, which opens at the Comedy Theatre on December 17, 2009 (previews from December 7).

Set in modern day London, The Misanthrope focuses on Alceste (Lewis), a famous British playwright, who is disillusioned and angry with the hypocrisy, shallowness and vanity of the contemporary world. He vows to reject society, only to have his plans derailed when he falls in love with Jennifer (Knightley), a darling of the social scene.

Price’s previous West End credits include Guys and Dolls (as Sarah Brown) alongside Patrick Swayze and Adam Cooper; Mamma Mia! (as Sophie); Desperately Seeking Susan (as Roberta), Chicago (as Roxie Hart) and A Little Night Music (as Countess Charlotte Malcolm).

Le Prevost‘s theatre credits include the title role in Peter Hall’s production of Uncle Vanya (Rose Theatre), The Philadelphia Story (Old Vic), The Wild Duck (Donmar Warehouse), Insignificance (Sheffield Theatres), Blood (Royal Court Theatre), My Fair Lady (National Theatre and West End), An Absolute Turkey (Gielguid Theatre) and most recently, The Last Cigarette (Trafalgar Studios and Chichester Festival Theatre).

On screen, he has appeared in Margaret, Mary Whitehouse, Midsomer Murders, My Dad’s the Prime Minister, Silent Witness, The Vicar of Dibley and Poirot (TV); Bright Young Things, Land Girls, Shakespeare in Love and Clockwise (film).

Iwuji’s theatre credits include the Royal Shakespeare Company’s History Cycle (London Roundhouse) and The Observer (National Theatre).

The Misanthrope is booking at the Comedy Theatre until March 13, 2010.
