OLIVIER Award-nominated The Play That Goes Wrong has extended its run at the Duchess Theatre for a second time and is now booking until February 14, 2016.

The show’s producer, Kenny Wax, said:

“It is remarkable that a booking taken accidentally by an intern ‘from The Duchess’ for what she thought was a one off charity performance for the Duchess of Grantham, has turned into a long running smash hit at the DUCHESS THEATRE in the heart of London’s glittering West End. I have invited the intern to the Olivier Awards. It was the least I could do.”

And Nica Burns, owner of the Duchess Theatre, said: “Long may it go wrong.”

The Play That Goes Wrong burst onto the stage with phenomenal success in December 2012. It is a remarkable fairy-tale for a play which started its life at the Old Red Lion Theatre, playing to only four paying members of the public at the first performance. The production subsequently transferred to Trafalgar Studios before embarking on a UK tour.

The Play That Goes Wrong is developing a growing legion of celebrity fans and has already been seen by, amongst others, Harrison Ford, Neil Patrick Harris, Ant & Dec, Simon Cowell, Tom Hardy, Mel Giedroyc, Joanna Lumley, Woody Harrelson, Rowan Atikinson, Richard Curtis, JJ Abrams, Nigel Planer, Michael Urie, Claudia Winkelman, Richard E Grant, Peter Davison, Stanley Tucci, Miranda Hart, Ellie Goulding, Dara O’Briain, Arlene Philips, Armando Iannucci, Ben Elton, Mike Leigh, Paul Merton and Janet Street Porter.

Co-written by Mischief Theatre company members Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields, and directed by Mark Bell, The Play That Goes Wrong is a highly physical finely-tuned comedy with Buster Keaton inspired slapstick delivered with split-second timing.

The play introduces The ‘Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society’ who are attempting to put on a 1920s’ murder mystery, but as the title suggests, everything that can go wrong… does, as the accident prone thespians battle on against all the odds to get to their final curtain call.

The Play That Goes Wrong has set designs by Nigel Hook, lighting by Ric Mountjoy, costumes by Roberto Surace and is performed by Mischief Theatre members: Rob Falconer, Dave Hearn, Henry Lewis, Charlie Russell, Jonathan Sayer, Henry Shields, Greg Tannahill and Nancy Wallinger.

NB: According to the press release, The Play That Goes Wrong has also added the February 14, 2026 performance for those who would like to book ahead – but with tickets remaining at 2015 prices.
