Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
THE ROYAL Court Theatre’s 50th anniversary celebrations continue with a one-off tribute performance of Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show – on Wednesday, May 3, 2006.
Sharing the role of Dr Frank-N-Furter, “the sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania”, will be Michael Ball who was seen recently as Count Fosco in The Woman in White; and Anthony Head who earlier this year, starred alongside Richard E Grant in Otherwise Engaged.
Likewise, Stephen Gately and Adrian Edmonson will play Brad; while Joanne Farrell and Sophie Lawrence take on Janet.
Also appearing will be Toyah Wilcox, Noel Campbell, Gary Amers and Patricia Quinn. Guest narrators will include Jamie Theakston, Steve Pemberton, Tony Slattery, Christopher Biggins and Richard O’Brien.
The Rocky Horror Show premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in 1973 and in a recent poll conducted by the theatre, was voted its most enjoyable production of the past five decades.
And it was, of course, adapted for film in 1975 with Susan Sarandon, Tim Curry and Meatloaf in key roles.
Tickets for Wednesday’s show are priced £50, £100, £200 and £350, with all proceeds donated to the Royal Court and Amnesty International.
