The Sound of Music - MacCorkindale joins cast

Simon MacCorkindale as Casualty's Harry Harper

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

ON AUGUST 25, 2008, Simon MacCorkindale will replace Simon Burke as Captain Von Trapp in Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s revival of The Sound of Music, which is currently booking until February 28, 2009, at the London Palladium.

Although The Sound of Music will be MacCorkindale’s musical debut, he’s certainly no stranger to theatre with credits that include The Importance of Being Oscar, Macbeth, A Doll’s House, The Unexpected Guest and Sleuth. He has also directed The Dark Lady of the Sonnets (National Theatre) and Pymalion (West End).

He is though, probably best known as Casualty‘s Harry Harper, a role he played from June 2002 to March 2008. However, his other screen credits are numerous and include Obsessive Love, Quartermass, Jesus of Nazareth, Dynasty, Juggernaut and Death on the Nile.

The current cast of The Sound of Music includes Summer Strallen as Maria, Fiona Sinnott (the Baroness), Paul Grunert (Max) and Margaret Preece (Mother Abbess). Also from August 25, the roles of Liesl and Rolf will be played by Rebecca Lucie and Nadim Naaman.
