The Tricycles' Handbagged transfers to W/E
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
THE Tricycle Theatre’s acclaimed production of Moira Buffini’s Handbagged is transferring to the West End’s Vaudeville Theatre, where it runs from April 10 (previews from April 3) to August 2, 2014.
Based on Buffini’s short play from the Tricycle’s Women, Power & Politics season, Handbagged focuses on two enduring icons – Queen Elizabeth II and Margaret Thatcher. Born six months apart, one was destined to rule, the other was elected to lead. But when the stiff upper lip softened and the gloves came off, which one had the upper hand?
Marion Bailey, Stella Gonet, Fenella Woolgar, Neet Mohan and Jeff Rawle reprise their original roles and will be joined by Lucy Robinson, who takes over from Clare Holman to complete the company.
Handbagged is directed by Indhu Rubasingham and is designed by Richard Kent, with lighting by Oliver Fenwick and sound by Carolyn Downing.
This will be the Tricycle Theatre’s first West End transfer under Indhu Rubasingham’s tenure as Artistic Director of the venue.
Also at the Vaudeville Theatre: The Duck House, with Ben Miller, Nancy Carroll and Diana Vickers; and Eric and Little Ern, which recreates some of the best-known moments from a vast archive of Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise television and stage performances.
