The West End Men - final casting announced
JOINING Lee Mead and special guest star Kerry Ellis in the cast of The West End Men, which runs at the Vaudeville Theatre from June 3 (previews from May 25) to June 22, 2013, will be Glenn Carter, Stephen Rahman Hughes, David Thaxton and Matt Willis.
The West End Men features songs from the West End, Broadway and Beyond in ‘breathtaking theatrical style’, backed by a full live band and choir. Described as an intimate production, it promises to take audiences on a journey to the very heart of the West End and its leading men.
Glenn Carter’s stage credits include Jersey Boys, Whistle Down the Wind, Hamlet, Les Misérables, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Grease, Chess, Godspell, Alfie and Merrily We Roll Along. He also played the role of Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar not only in the West End and on Broadway but also in a film version.
Carter’s other screen credits include Les Misérables 10th Anniversary Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, Bernadette Peters in Concert at the Royal Festival Hall, Ten Glorious Years and The Travelling Man. He has also appeared in over twenty-five Andrew Lloyd Webber Concerts and several Royal Variety Performances; and is featured on various cast recordings, including Jesus Christ Superstar, La Cage aux Folles, Grease and Mack and Mabel. Carter is a songwriter for Phonogram and Arista record labels in the UK.
Stephen Rahman Hughes’ stage credits include West Side Story, Drive Ride Walk, The Country Wife and Bombay Dreams. He is also an award-winning choreographer, receiving the Jerwood Award for Hedo-scetic (RainRed Dance Theatre) and the Peter Darrell Choreographer’s award for Stravinsky’s Renard (Scottish Ballet). As well, he choreographed the pop promo Devil’s Nightmare for Oxide and Nuetrino which was on the soundtrack for Tomb Raider and won a MOBO award for best video.
His screen credits include Dream Team, Afternoon Plays, Trouble in Tahiti, Swinger, Bad Girls, Doctors and most recently, Emmerdale (as series regular DI Dasari). He also signed with critically acclaimed group Teatro, recording with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
David Thaxton recently starred in the Donmar Warehouse production of Passion, for which he won the 2011 Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical. He previously appeared as Enjolras in the West End production of Les Misérables and was part of the 21st Anniversary Cast, performing at the special BBC Radio 2 concert. In March 2011, he joined the cast of Love Never Dies (Adelphi Theatre) as Raoul de Chagny, a role he played until the show closed in August that same year.
Matt Willis is best known for being one third of British pop rock band Busted, who sold over three million albums worldwide, winning two BRIT awards and record of the year in 2004. Willis’ solo singles include Up All Night, Hey Kid, Don’t Let It Go to Waste and a cover of the Primitives song Crash.
On stage, he has appeared in Wicked (Apollo Victoria Theatre), Flashdance the Musical (Shaftesbury Theatre) and Footloose the Musical (UK Tour). As well as presenting shows such as I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here Now, The BRIT Awards, Spanking new Music Tour and BAFTA’s Red Carpet Coverage, his television credits include The Bill, Casualty, EastEnders, Adrenaline Junkie with Jack Osbourne and I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, which he won in 2006.
