Previously Posted: Written by Will Eno, Thom Pain (Based on Nothing) runs at The Print Room from September 15 to to October 13, 2012.

Former National Theatre Staff Director, Simon Evans, directs Eno’s one man show of a young man’s anguished journey to adulthood.

The monologue has received high acclaim in both London and America, where Charles Isherwood in the New York Times dubbed Will Eno “a Samuel Beckett for the Jon Stewart generation.”

First performed in 2004 at Soho Theatre, it was a finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Eno’s Oh The Humanity is the centerpiece of Northern Stage’s inaugural season at Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August, and transfers to Soho Theatre from September 12.

As well as Staff Director at the National Theatre, Simon Evans has previously worked as Creative Associate for the Bush Theatre, and Resident Assistant Director at the Donmar Warehouse.

His credits include Madness In Valencia (Trafalgar Studios), Whiff Whaff (Theatre Uncut), Apple Pie and Hours Till Autumn (Riverside Studios), Cyrano de Bergerac and The Misanthrope (White Bear Theatre), Us & Them (Bush Theatre), Something Perfect, Disappear and Devolution (Theatre503) and Skyscraper (Public Theater, New York). He is currently Artistic Director at Black and White Rainbow.

Thom Pain (Based on Nothing) is designed by Ben Stones, who has designed for theatres across London and the UK, including the Royal Court Theatre, Donmar Warehouse, Sheffield Crucible, Tricycle Theatre, Arcola Theatre, Duke of York’s Theatre, Salisbury Playhouse, Shakespeare’s Globe, Almeida Theatre, the Young Vic, Sadler’s Wells and the Bush Theatre.

Artistic Director of The Print Room, Anda Winters, said: “We’re very excited to be working with Will Eno and Simon Evans to stage a piece we feel is perfect for our intimate space. I’ve admired Will Eno’s work for some time with its strong individual characters and wonderfully detailed observation. Simon is the ideal director for the piece, a great young talent we are looking forward to seeing in action.”
