Thriller Live celebrates 1000 performances with Blue

Theatre news

THE WEST End production of Thriller – Live has extended its booking period at the Lyric Theatre until September 23, 2012.

Previously Posted: On Thursday, May 26, 2011, the West End production of Thriller – Live will celebrate its 1000th performance with special guest stars Blue and Shaheen Jarargholi.

Boy-band Blue, whose members are Simon Webbe, Lee Ryan, Duncan James and Antony Costa, have sold over 14 million records worldwide. They recently represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song I Can.

Shaheen Jarargholi, the Britain’s Got Talent contestant who was in a pre-West End tour of Thriller – Live, sang I’ll Be There at the 2009 MOBO Awards, during the ceremony’s tribute to Jackson. And in July that year, he sang Who’s Lovin’ You at the Michael Jackson Memorial Service in LA, which was televised around the world.

Jarargholi had been invited to perform with Michael Jackson in his This Is It series of London concerts.

Thriller – Live, which opened in the West End in January 2009 after three acclaimed UK tours, is currently booking at the Lyric Theatre until January 22, 2012.

Unlike other West End productions, Thriller – Live is not a rigid book musical with set songs, but is a constantly evolving music concert celebration. Following Jackson’s untimely death in June 2009, the show has regularly been updated with additional songs, new visuals and choreography.

Since opening in the West End, several world tours have seen the show play to acclaim in many countries, including Germany, Italy, Poland, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Singapore, South Africa, China, Sweden, Finland and Norway. Further productions are planned for Australia, South and North America and Canada. It has been seen by more than 1.5 million people worldwide.

A year after his death, a permanent West End memorial to Michael Jackson was unveiled in the foyer of the Lyric Theatre by the cast and Britain’s top dance group, Diversity, winners of Britain’s Got Talent, who had been booked by Michael Jackson to perform alongside him at his This Is It dates at the O2.

Thriller – Live was originally conceived and created by Executive Director of the show, Adrian Grant, a long time associate of Michael Jackson, and author of Michael Jackson – The Visual Documentary.

It is produced by Paul Walden and Derek Nicol for Flying Music in association with Adrian Grant for Key Concerts. Choreography is by the show’s award-winning director Gary Lloyd.
