Thriller Live dims lights for Michael Jackson

THIS evening (June 26, 2009), Thriller Live, which celebrates the life and music of Michael Jackson, will dim its lights and observe a minute’s silence in tribute to the entertainer who died yesterday.

A statement from the producers said:

“After much deliberation overnight and this morning and taking into consideration the views of Michael’s legion of fans, we can think of no greater tribute to the memory of the man and his incredible music than for tonight’s performances at the Lyric theatre in the West End and Manchester Opera House go ahead as planned. The lights outside the Lyric theatre and Manchester Opera House will be dimmed in tribute to his passing at 19:30 and a minute’s silence will be held in the auditorium.”

Thriller Live, which opened at the Lyric Theatre in January, features the hits I Want You Back, I’ll Be There, Show You the Way to Go, Can You Feel It, Rock with You, She’s Out of My Life, Thriller, Beat It, Ben, ABC, Man in the Mirror, Dirty Diana, Billie Jean, Earth Song and many more.

Thriller Live also includes video footage, plus choreography by the show’s award-winning director Gary Lloyd.

This morning, Adrian Grant, the show’s writer and executive director said:

“Words cannot express my deep sense of loss and sadness; I am shocked beyond belief that Michael has died. My full condolences go out to his family – his children, parents, brothers and sisters. The Jackson family have lost a son and a father, and the world has lost one of the greatest entertainers of all time, a true legend.

“Michael Jackson has been a massive influence in my life – inspiring me to get into the entertainment industry and to produce the best work that I can. I have supported Michael for the past 21 years through my magazines, books and now Thriller Live, and I will continue to support and promote his legacy via this musical celebration.”
