Tom Jones - Lion and Unicorn Theatre
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
GIANT Olive Theatre Company is re-launching the Lion & Unicorn Theatre with Ross Ericson’s adaptation of Henry Fielding’s comic masterpiece Tom Jones – from May 24 to June 13, 2011.
The story, which follows the adventures of a young man of illegitimate birth through a tale of love, deception and mistaken identity, is a feast of human nature, served up in the plain and simple manner of the West Country but with a high French and Italian seasoning of sex and vice.
The questions remain: Will Tom gain his darling Sophia’s hand? Will he escape the hangman’s noose? Will he ever learn to keep it in his trousers?
Reuniting Giant Olive’s troupe of actors, Edward Kingham makes his directorial debut along with Ross Ericson, Stephanie Hampton, Claire Walsh, Kate Mounce, Ben Bellamy, Simon Greeves and Sarah Kelly.
Tom Jones was famously filmed in 1963, when it starred Albert Finney, Susannah York and Diane Cilento.
Tickets: £15/£12/£10 – available from the box office on 08444 77 1000 or from Ticketweb.
