Daniel Evans

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

DANIEL Evans and Jamie Doyle are to star in Christopher Hampton’s early play, Total Eclipse, at the Menier Chocolate Factory – from March 26 (previews from March 19) to May 27, 2007.

Hampton’s play, which received its world premiere at the Royal Court in 1968, charts the passionate and violent homosexual relationship between the two 19th century French poets, Paul Verlaine (Evans) and Arthur Rimbaud (Doyle).

In 1995, it was adapted for film and starred Leonardo DiCaprio as Rimbaud and David Thewlis as Verlaine.

Evans was last seen at the Menier Chocolate Factory in the multi-award-winning Sunday in the Park with George which subsequently transferred to the West End. For his performance, Evans has been nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical.

His numerous stage credits include Merrily We Roll Along (for which he won an Olivier), Candide, Grand Hotel, The Tempest, Peter Pan, The Merchant of Venice, Troilus and Cressida, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Cymbeline and Measure for Measure.

Evans TV and screen appearances are equally numerous and include Daniel Deronda, Tomorrow La Scala, Love in a Cold Climate, Great Expectations and The Barber of Siberia.

Doyle, a recent RADA graduate, played Romeo in Romeo and Juliet for Birmingham Rep.

His screen credits include TV’s Shameless (as Jimmy); Don’t Rain on My Parade, Imagine, Lorelei, Rockabye and Dancing with Lucy (film).

Total Eclipse will be directed by Paul Miller.

Prior to its West End transfer, Little Shop of Horrors continues at the Menier Chocolate Factory until February 25, 2007.
