TRAFALGAR Studio 2 has announced its Summer 2008 season, which opens with the one-man black comedy, The Quiz, performed by Olivier Award-winning actor David Bradley. A touring production, it runs from June 17 to June 28, 2008.
If you’ve been performing ‘The Grand Inquisitor’ for too many years and it’s always been your dream to die on stage like Kean, Irving and Tommy Cooper — is tonight the night to make the ultimate leap?
In 1991, Bradley won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in King Lear. His more recent stage credits include The Caretaker, Henry IV Parts I and II, Titus Andronicus, Twelfth Night and Uncle Vanya. On screen, he has appeared in Hot Fuzz and the Harry Potter films (as Argus Filch).
The Quiz is written by Richard Crane, directed by David Giles, designed by Kenneth Mellor and presented by New Vic Workshop, Jordan Productions and James Seabright.
Next comes I, Lear by Andrew Jones and Ciaran Murtagh – from July 21 to August 16, 2008.
In what is described as an anarchic character comedy, Chester Blenheim and Hugh Carpenter attempt to condense a lifetime’s worth of roles into a single evening. Best Comedy Show winner at the 2007 Buxton Festival, I, Lear is directed by Cal McCrystal and presented by The Black Sheep in association with Scamp Theatre.
The Black Sheep and Scamp Theatre return with the improvised children’s show Professor Bumm’s Story Machine – from July 22 to August 16, 2008 (at 3pm).
Whose Line is it Anyway? meets Jackanory in what is described as a crackpot comedy of made-up madness as two eggheads race to avoid getting egg on their faces by turning words and ideas from the audience into hilarious new stories.
Professor Bumm’s Story Machine is created and performed by Andrew Jones and Ciaran Murtagh, and is most suitable for children over six and their families.
Finally – from August 18 to August 23, 2008 – comes The MAD Fringe, a fundraising alternative to the Edinburgh Festival.
Shows featuring cabaret, comedy, theatre and music will raise money for people living with HIV and AIDS, both in the UK and abroad.
