Twelfth Night - Richard Wilson stars
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
FOLLOWING its run at Stratford-upon-Avon, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Twelfth Night, with Richard Wilson as Malvolio, will transfer to the Duke of York’s Theatre for a limited ten-week season – from December 22, 2009 (previews from December 19) to February 27, 2010.
Joining Wilson in Shakespeare’s romantic comedy of mistaken identity will be James Fleet (The Vicar of Dibley‘s Hugo) as Sir Andrew Aguecheek, Nancy Carroll (Viola), Jo Stone-Fewings (Orsino), Sam Alexander (Sebastian), Alexandra Gilbreath (Olivia), Richard McCabe (Sir Toby Belch), Pamela Nomvete (Maria), Simeon Moore (Antonio) and Miltos Yerolemou (Feste).
Gregory Doran, RSC Chief Associate, will direct.
Carroll and Gilbreath have previously appeared opposite each other as Rosalind and Celia in the RSC’s production of As You Like It which was also directed by Doran.
Although Wilson is probably best known as One Foot in the Grave‘s Victor Meldrew, his theatre credits include Whipping It Up, What the Butler Saw and Waiting for Godot (as an actor); The Woman Before, Rainbow Kiss, Playing the Victim, Where Do We Live and Antony Cher’s Primo (as director).
Twelfth Night runs at Stratford’s Courtyard Theatre from October 15 to November 21, 2009.
Arcadia continues at the Duke of York’s Theatre until September 12, 2009.
