ANNA Mackmin will direct Catherine Tate as Michelle in a revival of David Eldridge’s Under the Blue Sky which runs for a limited season – from July 10 to September 20, 2008 – at the Duke of York’s Theatre.

Described as a darkly comic yet tender play, Under the Blue Sky examines three relationships, six lives and the nature of love and friendship, both true and unrequited.

Multi award-winning Catherine Tate‘s theatre credits include Neil LaBute’s Some Girls (Gielgud Theatre); The 24 Hour Plays (Old Vic and Broadway); The Exonerated (Riverside Studios); A Servant to Two Masters (Royal Shakespeare Company); and The Prince’s Play and The Way of the World (National Theatre).

After playing Donna Noble opposite David Tennant in the BBC’s Doctor Who Christmas Special, Tate has reprised the role of the Doctor’s Companion for the fourth series which can currently be seen on BBC1; and her acclaimed television sketch show The Catherine Tate Show has seen three hugely successful series also on BBC.

Her film credits include Mrs Ratcliffe’s Revolution, Starter for Ten, Sixty Six and Scenes of a Sexual Nature.

David Eldridge‘s other plays include Market Boy, Incomplete and Random Acts of Kindness, M.A.D., Serving It Up, Fighting for Breath, A Week with Tony plus the multi award-winning stage adaptation of Festen, and new versions of Ibsen’s The Wild Duck and John Gabriel Borkman. His radio plays include Salford, Ilford, Romford and all Stations to Southend and Michael and Me.

Anna Mackmin‘s credits include Ghosts (Gate Theatre); Breathing Corpses and Food Chain (Royal Court); The Dark (Donmar Warehouse); Auntie and Me (Wyndham’s Theatre); In Flame (Bush and the New Ambassadors); Cloud Nine, The Crucible and Iphigenia (all at Sheffield Crucible); and The Lightning Play and Dying for It (Almeida). She made her National Theatre directorial debut with Burn, Citizenship and Chatroom and just last year, directed Orlando Bloom in David Storey’s 1969 drama In Celebration at the Duke of York’s.

Under the Blue Sky was first seen at the Royal Court Theatre in September 2000 with Rufus Norris directing a cast that included Sheila Hancock.
