Story by Lizzie Guilfoyle

SPEAKING at a formal ceremony to install him as the Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University, Queen guitarist Brian May revealed that plans are afoot to stage a sequel to We Will Rock You.

The 60-year-old said, “ We are planning the sequel. It is a real challenge.”

He also spoke about the band’s forthcoming autumn tour and new album, “We’ve pressed the button to go on tour this autumn so already the preparations are very consuming. We’ve chosen our set, we’ve chosen our environment on tour. It is very exciting, very exciting indeed. Very time consuming but Queen always was consuming.”

Written and directed by Ben Elton, We Will Rock You premiered in April 2002 and although the majority of critics hated it, the public loved it. So much so, in fact, that it has become the longest-running show in the history of the Dominion Theatre. To date it has been seen by more than two million people. Productions of the musical have also opened in Australia, Spain, Russia, America, Japan and Germany.

The action takes place in a futuristic world where rock music is banned. There are, however, those who believe there was once a Golden Age of music. The show features 32 of Queen’s greatest hits such as Bohemian Rhapsody, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Under Pressure, Radio Gaga and, of course, the title song We Will Rock You.
