Well transfers to the Apollo Theatre
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
LISA Kron’s semi-autobiographical comedy Well, which was seen at Trafalgar Studios earlier this year, will transfer to the Apollo Theatre for a strictly limited run – from December 30, 2008 (preview December 29) to January 24, 2009.
Well focuses on the relationship between Kron and her mother, Ann. However, Kron goes a step too far when she decides to write her mother into her latest play, thereby paving the way for a mother-daughter showdown.
Eve Leigh directs Sarah Miles and Natalie Casey who reprise their roles of mother and daughter. Miles, who will always be remembered for her Oscar-nominated performance in the 1970 film Ryan’s Daughter, has also appeared in Lady Caroline Lamb, The Servant and Term Of Trial, opposite Laurence Olivier and Simone Signoret.
Casey, whose television credits include Hollyoaks and the sitcom Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps, has appeared on stage in Fame and The Wedding Singer.
New to the cast will be Oliver Chris, a familiar face on television from his roles in The Office, Green Wing and The IT Crowd. In 2007, he played Petruchio in The Taming Of The Shrew at Wilton’s Music Hall.
Well opened on Broadway in 2006 and went on to receive two Tony Award nominations. It received its UK premier at Trafalgar Studio 2 in September, 2008.
Rain Man continues at the Apollo Theatre until December 20, 2008.
