West End Eurovision - Piccadilly Theatre

FORGET Serbia, London has its very own song contest, West End Eurovision, which takes place at the Piccadilly Theatre on Thursday, May 15, 2008 (at 11.30pm).

Presented by TheatreMAD, this late night show will see the companies of Avenue Q, Wicked, Mamma Mia!, Buddy and Grease competing against each other, singing past Eurovision songs in an attempt to win the support of both a celebrity judging panel and the audience.

The celebrity judges will include David Ian, Cheryl Baker, Sally Anne Triplett and Frances Ruffelle. The audience will vote via text messages.

And Scooch will be making a special guest appearance, performing their 2007 Eurovision entry Flying The Flag (For You).

The United Kingdom last won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997 with Love Shine A Light which was sung by Katrina and the Waves. Other UK winners include Sandie Shaw’s Puppet on a String, Lulu’s Boom Bang-a-Bang, Brotherhood of Man’s Save Your Kisses for Me and Bucks Fizz’ Making Your Mind Up.

This year, the Eurovision Song Contest takes place in Belgrade on May 24, with Andy Abraham representing the UK with Even If.
