Where the Mangrove Grows - casting announced

CASTING has been announced for Tamara Harvey’s production of Where the Mangrove Grows, the debut play by Royal Court Studio writer Joe Hammond, which runs at Theatre503 from November 6 to December 1, 2012.
Award-winning actor David Birrell will star alongside former EastEnders cast member Charlie Jones and actor Mark Springer.
David Birrell will play care worker Mike, whose troubled relationship with twelve year-old Shaun is at the heart of the play.
This summer, Birrell appeared in both A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Ragtime at the Regents Park Open Air Theatre. His previous theatre credits include Company (Crucible Theatre), Passion and Grand Hotel (Donmar Warehouse), Sweeney Todd (Dundee Rep) and Jerry Springer – The Opera (West End/BBC Television).
Charlie Jones, best known as the young Ben Mitchell in EastEnders, will play troubled youngster Shaun.
Mark Springer, whose theatre credits include Don Juan (Citizens Theatre), Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare’s Globe), Songs of Grace and Redemption (Theatre503) and Henry V (National Theatre), will play the mysterious Charles.
Where the Mangrove Grows will be designed by Amy Jane Cook, with lighting by Oliver Fenwick and sound by Matt McKenzie.
Where the Mangrove Grows is a darkly enchanting tale based on a young boy’s experiences in care.
