Wicked - casting announced for UK tour

CASTING has been announced for the touring production of Wicked, which begins at the Palace Theatre in Manchester where it runs from September 12 to November 16, 2013.

Nikki Davis-Jones (as Elphaba) and Emily Tierney (Glinda) will lead the cast, with Liam Doyle (Fiyero), Marilyn Cutts (Madame Morrible), Dale Rapley (The Wizard and Doctor Dillamond), Carina Gillespie (Nessarose), George Ure (Boq) and Jemma Alexander (Standby Elphaba).

Completing the cast will be Lee Bridgman, Chrissy Brooke, Richard Carson, Harrison Clark, Jeanine Dinger, Tim Edwards, Howard Ellis, Natasha Ferguson, Zoe George, Lia Given, Natalie Green, Charlie Harding, Katie Kerr, Robert Kershaw, Will Knights, Sophie Leigh-Griffin, Candy Marriott, Oliver Metzler, Wendy-Lee Purdy, Julienne Schembri, Grant Thresh, Ed White and Helen Woolf.

Nikki Davis-Jones previously played Elphaba at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre, where as ‘Standby’ she performed the role on numerous occasions to huge acclaim. Her many other theatre credits include Maureen in the 20th Anniversary concert tour of Rent with Kerry Ellis; the new musical LIFT (Soho Theatre); Wendy in Peter Pan (Liverpool Empire); Serena in Fame The Musical (UK Tour); Anna in ASAP (Liverpool Unity Theatre); and the Take That musical Never Forget, Lisa in Mamma Mia! and Linda in Blood Brothers (all in the West End).

She has also appeared in the film adaptation of Mamma Mia!.

After appearing in the London production of Wicked, Emily Tierney starred as Glinda in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production of The Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium alongside Over The Rainbow winner Danielle Hope. Her other theatre credits include Sally in All the Fun of the Fair (Garrick Theatre); Maria in West Side Story (Barbican) and Titanic – The Musical (Shaw Theatre).

On screen, she has appeared in Push, Do It in Style and New Tricks (TV); John Carter of Mars and Kate Modern (film).

Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire that re-imagines the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two girls who first meet as sorcery students at Shiz University: the blonde and very popular Glinda and a misunderstood green girl named Elphaba.

Following an encounter with The Wizard, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths. Glinda’s unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power while Elphaba’s determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences for her future. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

The UK and Ireland Tour will also visit Dublin Bord Gáis Energy Theatre (November 27, 2013 to January 18, 2014); Milton Keynes Theatre (February 4 to March 8, 2014); Wales Millennium Centre (March 12 to April 26, 2014); Glasgow King’s Theatre (May 6 to May 31, 2014); Leeds Grand Theatre (June 10 to July 5, 2014) and Birmingham Hippodrome (July 9 to September 6, 2014).

Tickets are now on sale at all venues. Further cities and dates into 2015 to be announced (cast subject to change).
