Wicked - new cast members for W/E production
ON MONDAY, October 27, 2014, Nikki Davis-Jones, who is currently winning rave reviews for her performance as Elphaba in the record-breaking UK tour of Wicked, will join the London production, which is currently booking at the Apollo Victoria Theatre until April 25, 2015.
Also joining the cast are Liza Sadovy (as Madame Morrible) and Philip Childs (Doctor Dillamond).
Willemijn Verkaik (Elphaba), Sue Kelvin (Madame Morrible) and Paul Clarkson (Doctor Dillamond) will all play their final performances on Saturday, October 25, 2014.
Savannah Stevenson (Glinda), Jeremy Taylor (Fiyero), Martyn Ellis (The Wizard), Sam Lupton (Boq), Katie Rowley Jones (Nessarose), Emma Hatton (Standby Elphaba) and Sophie Linder-Lee (Standby Glinda) all continue in their roles.
Nikki Davis-Jones’ other theatre credits include The Girl in Blues in the Night (Hackney Empire); Maureen in Rent (20th Anniversary Concert UK Tour); Secretary in LIFT (Soho Theatre); Standby Elphaba in Wicked (Apollo Victoria Theatre); Jo in Little Women (Playhouse Theatre); Wendy in Peter Pan (Liverpool Empire); Serena in Fame The Musical (UK Tour); Bubbles and Chloe in Never Forget (Savoy Theatre); Anna in ASAP (Liverpool Unity Theatre); Lisa and Sophie in Mamma Mia! (Prince of Wales Theatre); Linda in Blood Brothers (Phoenix Theatre); Tiger Lily in Peter Pan (Sheffield Lyceum) and Spider in Her Benny (Liverpool Empire).
Davis-Jones also appeared in Phyllida Lloyd’s hugely successful film version of Mamma Mia! (Universal Pictures).
Liza Sadovy recently played Mrs Sowerberry in Oliver! at Sheffield Crucible with Tom Edden and Hayley Gallivan, directed by Daniel Evans. Her other theatre roles include: Yvonne in Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday In The Park with George (Menier Chocolate Factory/West End); Catherine de Brie in La Bête (West End and Broadway); Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland (RSC) and Jenny in Stephen Sondheim’s Company (Donmar Warehouse/West End).
For director Richard Jones, Sadovy has played Dolly Tate in Anne Get Your Gun (Young Vic); Mrs Mitzu and Mrs Yang in The Good Soul of Szechaun (Young Vic); The Baroness in Tales From Vienna Woods (National Theatre); The Leading Actress in Six Characters in Search of an Author (Young Vic) and Florinda in Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods (original London production, Phoenix Theatre).
Sadovy won a TMA Award for her roles as Katherine Glass in The Secret Rapture (Bristol Old Vic) and Paula Heimann in Mrs Klein (Northampton Theatre Royal).
Philip Childs recently starred as Bob in the UK Tour of Priscilla Queen of the Desert. His other recent stage work includes Alan Bennett’s People and The Habit of Art (National Theatre); Guilty Secret by Roger Mortimer-Smith (The Mill at Sonning); Keeler (UK Tour) and Stand Up And Be Counted (UK Tour). He has appeared in productions all over the UK and internationally and was in the original cast of Howard Goodall and Melvyn Bragg’s musical The Hired Man in the West End.
Childs’ numerous screen credits include Emmerdale, Clapham Junction, EastEnders and Dream Team (TV); Mike Leigh’s Vera Drake and The Damned United (film).
Based on the international best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire that ingeniously re-imagined the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two sorcery students. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
