Written in Water - Putney Arts Theatre

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

CHRIS Mounsey will direct his own play Written in Water at Putney Arts Theatre – from March 12 to March 17, 2007.

Written in Water tells the poignant story of the short life of John Keats (1795 – 1821), poet of Ode To A Nightingale, The Eve of St Agnes and To Autumn.

All through his life, Keats strove against the odds to let his genius flourish and Written in Water tells how, after losing his father and mother, he was left to bring up three brothers and sisters yet, despite the hardships, his desire to be a poet remained undimmed.

Keats, who died of tuberculosis, chose his own epitaph – “Here lies one whose name was writ in water.” His name does not even appear on the tomb stone. However, his brief life has a message for us all – to keep ambition alive however difficult things become.

The cast of Written in Water includes Frances Bodiam, Gregory Cheverall, Sukhraj Dhillon, Ed Lane, Carla Lang, Julie McDonnell, James McKendrick, Diane Myles, Pete Picton and Harriet Welford-Turpin.

Tickets: £10, £8 concessions.
