You Can Do It - Leicester Square Theatre
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
ROGER Wright, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s third place finalist in the ITV1 search for Jesus for his new arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, and Paul Hazel are to star together in the West End premiere of You Can Do It.
Described as a feel-good show featuring the music of Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Sammy Davis, Jnr, Nat King Cole, Earth Wind and Fire and many more, You Can Do It will play at Leicester Square Theatre on Sunday, October 7, 2012, with further dates still to be announced.
Brothers Bertie and Edwin Lightfoot are stuck in the past, dreaming about what could have been when they had the world at their feet as singing sensations, ‘The Lightfoot Brothers’. Then one day, their father ‘Pappa Lightfoot’ sends them a heavenly command to put on the show of their lives… and the party really begins!
You Can Do It is based on an original story by Roger Wright, and features a live band accompaniment to the mix of soul classics and jazz, pop, rock and rhythm and blues numbers.
Roger Wright and Paul Hazel have both starred in some of the biggest West End musicals. Wright originated the role of Simba in the original West End cast of The Lion King, was Marvin Gaye in Dancing in the Streets and the compere and one of the lead singers in the long-running Michael Jackson show, Thriller Live.
Hazel’s many West End shows include Five Guys Named Moe, Avenue Q, Starlight Express and Dancing in The Streets.
