Broadway: Terrence Howard stars in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
Compiled by Jack Foley
OSCAR nominee Terrence Howard joins veteran actor James Earl Jones and Dreamgirls star Anika Noni Rose for a new production of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, opening at the Broadhurst Theatre, Broadway, for a strictly limited run from February 12 to April 13, 2008.
The show marks the first time an African-American cast appears in the Tennessee Williams’ play on Broadway, although there is a regional theatre precedent for the casting conceit.
The classic tale focuses on the hypocrisy, greed and secret passions that threaten to tear apart a wealthy but dysfunctional Mississippi family.
Rose, Howard and Jones will portray the larger-than-life characters of Maggie “the Cat,” her alcoholic husband, Brick, and the dominating family patriarch, Big Daddy, respectively, in a show that promises not to be missed.
Howard shot to prominence as a hustler who attempted to break into the music industry in Craig Brewer’s Hustle & Flow, for which he earned a surprise Oscar nomination. He has since appeared alonngside Jodie Foster in The Brave One.
Cat On A Hot Tin Roof is directed by Debbie Allen and will run from Tuesday, February 12 until Sunday, April 13, 2008 at The Broadhurst Theatre, 235 West 44th Street.
