Story by Jack Foley
G'DAY
mateys, some of Australias finest wines and food will be on offer when
the Flavours of Australia' Festival comes to Richmond Athletic
Grounds on Saturday, July 13.
The mouth-watering event, which is being promoted by 1st Contact website with some of the proceeds going to support the Starlight Children's Foundation of Australia, promises to offer a diverse mix of some of the distinctive flavours from Down Under, as well as some Australian music guaranteed to bring down the house.
Australia is perhaps the most well known of the new world wine regions and
has a reputation for producing highly distinctive, excellent quality wines.
The festival organisers promise that Flavours of Australia will feature some
of the finest examples of wines that Australia has to offer.
In order to achieve this, there will be five separate wine tents, each featuring
different wine regions including New South Wales, Victoria/Tasmania, South
Australia - south and north of Adelaide and West Australia. Guests will be
able to choose from a Clare Valley Riesling, a Hunter Valley Semillon, a Barossa
Valley Shiraz or a Yarra Valley Chardonnay in order to warm up the taste-buds
for the glorious Australian menu which follows.
The food itself will comprise a variety of modern, innovative Australian cuisine
alongside the more traditional classics. Food will be freshly prepared and
many of the ingredients will be imported from Australia especially for the
day.
The menu will feature mouth-watering dishes such as:
l king prawns with chilli and wattle seed dipping
sauce;
l the classic Aussie bbq platter with porterhouse
steak, lamb cutlet, sausage and salads;
l Barramundi wraps with roquette;
l Gourmet bbq steak with caramelised red onion
in foccacia;
l Fresh Sydney rock oysters with a variety of
dipping sauces;
l Grilled kangaroo fillets with Asian vegetables;
l Pavlova with fresh cream and fruit;
l and Anzac biscuits.
And to help with the digestion, the festival will be flying Aussie sensations,
The Superjesus (pictured), over exclusively to perform two acoustic
sets at the festival.
The band, which hails from Adelaide, is of Double Platinum acclaim and has
previously performed at events such as The Big Day Out Festival with the likes
of Ash, Hole and Korn.
Other music will also feature at the festival and popular hits and classics
will be played throughout the day.
The live entertainment will be presented on a central stage within view of
all the wine and food tents, so visitors will be able to relax on the grass
in front of the stage and soak up the atmosphere.
Tickets for the event, which takes place from noon to 8pm, cost just £23.50
and can be booked online at www.1stcontact.co.uk
- 50p of which will go towards the Starlight Children's Foundation of Australia.
There will also be a further collection on the day.
