PIRATES of the Caribbean
could well sail off with a clutch of MTV Movie Awards, now that
the annual list of nominees has been announced ahead of the June
ceremony.
The surprise Summer blockbuster hit has been nominated for a
total of six awards, including best film, best male (Johnny Depp)
and best villain, for Geoffrey Rush.
Its main Oscar rival, however, The
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, has only been nominated
in two categories, for best film and best action sequence.

Dates, and blockbuster, X-Men 2, have four nominations each.
50 First Dates is the only movie to have both leading characters
- Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore - nominated in the best male
and best female acting categories.
While other leading actresses include Uma Thurman for Quentin
Tarantino's Kill Bill: Volume 1,
Oscar-winner, Charlize Theron, for Monster,
and Halle Berry, for Gothika, and

Down The House.
In the best actor category, Depp will take on Tom Cruise, for
The Last Samurai, as well
as Bill Murray, for Lost

The awards, which reflect audience choice more than critical
acclaim, will be handed out on June 5, in Los Angeles.
