BRITISH actor David Morrissey has emerged as the unlikely male
lead in Basic Instinct 2, playing a police psychologist alongside
Sharon Stone's Catherine Trammell.
News of the casting emerged on January 7, 2005, and surprised
many film fans given the notoriety surrounding the project.
However, Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction will be set in London
and although no major plot points have been revealed as yet, there
are many pundits predicting a less than thrilling cinema-going
experience.

Basic Instinct was a fairly good
thriller which made a name for Stone, following the notorious
police interrogation scene, and which furthered the career of
Michael Douglas.
But it has taken so long to get the sequel underway that many
now believe it's a case of too little, too late.
Stone, certainly, needs a sizeable hit to boost her status, given
recent flops such as Cold
Creek Manor and Catwoman.
It makes the casting of Morrissey all the more surprising, given
that he remains little known to the massive US market.
Morrissey did star alongside Nicolas Cage in Captain
Corelli's Mandolin and will be well-known to television viewers
as the star of the BBC’s musical drama, Blackpool.
He also seems intent on making it in Hollywood, and has lined
up supporting roles in Derailed, alongside Jennifer Aniston and
Clive Owen, and Stephen Woolley’s Brian Jones biopic.
It remains to be seen, however, whether Basic Instinct 2 will
give him a suitable platform for a shot at well-deserved leading
man status.
