THE first footage of the new Batman movie, Batman Begins, has
been released by distributor, Warner Bros, this week (ending July
30, 2004).
The film, directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian
Bale as the Dark Knight, is an equally anticipated return to the
dark roots of the first film, which is said to follow the serious
tone of influential Bat-comics, Year One and The Dark Knight Returns.
The trailer - which can be viewed at http://batmanbegins.warnerbros.com/
- centres around a moody Bruce Wayne (Bale) and his pre-Batman
life, beginning with the murder of his parents.
A voice-over states that: "When my parents were murdered,
I caught a glimpse of something. I've been looking for it ever
since. There is something out there, something terrifying, something
that will not stop until it gets revenge... me!"

The trailer, which has hitherto focused
on Wayne’s pilgrimage to a distant land, then cuts to a
quick shot of Bale in full rubber batgear - just to get the pulses
racing.
As well as the trailer, Warner has released photos of Bale in
his batsuit, and monster-truck style batmobile, as well as photos
of other high-profile cast members, such as Gary Oldman, who plays
Commissioner Gordon, Michael Caine, as Alfred the Butler, and
Morgan Freeman, as Lucius Fox.
Liam Neeson is also shown, sporting shorter hair, but the same
sort of moody look he adopted for his Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
persona.
Bat-fans have yet to see the likes of Katie Holmes, Rutger Hauer,
Ken Watanabe and Tom Wilkinson, who also have prominent roles.
The blockbuster, which looks set to re-invigorate the Batman
franchise, and give Spider-Man a run for his money, is due out
next June. |
