MEMBERS of the public are being asked to help find Britain's
greatest actor and actress.
The public is being asked to select from a shortlist of some
of Britains movie greats, including Lord Olivier, Audrey
Hepburn, Cary Grant and Dame Elizabeth Taylor, which has been
compiled by a panel of experts.
The winners will then be announced on a TV special, in the Summer.
The vote is being run by Radio Times, as part of Britain's Finest
programmes, to be broadcast on channel Five in August.

According to panel member, Barry Norman, the search is looking
for people who have proved themselves, not just once or
twice but time and time again.
"We are talking about strength and talent and ability and
I think most of those on the list answer that criteria,"
he added.
The former BBC critic said that enduring appeal was the key,
and not Oscar-winning ability or film stardom.
The shortlist is:
Men
Lord Laurence Olivier, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Sir Alec Guinness,
Charles Laughton, Sir John Gielgud, Peter Sellers, Daniel Day-Lewis,
Cary Grant, Sir Ian McKellen and Kenneth Branagh.
Women
Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Dame Judi Dench, Dame Maggie Smith, Julie
Walters, Vanessa Redgrave, Dame Peggy Ashcroft, Dame Helen Mirren,
Deborah Kerr, Vivien Leigh and Audrey Hepburn.
