AMELIE star, Audrey Tautou, has landed the key role of cryptologist,
Sophie Neveu, in the movie version of best-selling novel, The
Da Vinci Code, according to French newspapers.
The star, who can currently be seen in A Very Long Engagement,
beat Julie Delpy, Vanessa Paradis, Juliette Binoche and Kate Beckinsale
to the role.
She will join Tom Hanks, as Professor Robert Langdon, and Jean
Reno, as police detective, Bezu Fache, in Ron Howard's movie.

Tautou has quickly emerged as one
of France's brightest female actresses following her work with
Jeunet on both Amelie and A Very Long Engagement, as well as British
thriller, Dirty Pretty Things.
She was selected by Howard because he preferred choosing a French
actress to a big name Hollywood star.
Dan Brown's religious conspiracy thriller has sold more than
17 million copies and is centred on a global conspiracy surrounding
the Holy Grail mythology.
The movie is being produced by Columbia/Sony Pictures at a rumoured
cost of $100m.
It has been scheduled for for a release on May 19, 2006 in the
US and France.
