HOW do you out-cool a film as ridiculously hip as Oceans
11? This is the task facing Steven Soderbergh and co, as they
bring you the sequel to their crime caper, Oceans 12.
Due for release in the US at Christmas, and in February in the
UK, the film reunites all of the principal cast of the Las Vegas-based
original, and adds Catherine Zeta-Jones, Vincent Cassel and, erm,
Eddie Izzard to the line-up.
Hence, audiences are faced with the mouth-watering prospect of
seeing George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Julia
Roberts, Bernie Mac and Andy Garcia (among others) back for a
second round of smooth-talking, ultra-slick, criminal fun.
The plot, although closely guarded, relocates the action to Europe,
as the stakes for Danny Ocean and his crew have risen since their
previous endeavours. Not only is Terry Benedict (Garcia) still
on their tail, for robbing his casinos, but the outfit is also
having to face off new rivals, in the form of a mysterious rival
French cat-burglar and a policewoman on a mission.
The target, this time, however, finds the gang after a Faberge
egg, and filming locations have thus far included Chicago, Amsterdam
Soderbergh stated that he felt he could do better, after completing
the first film, so set about re-assembling the same dynamite cast,
which proved easier than most would anticipate, given the vibe
surrounding the director at the moment. It seems everyone wants
to appear with him.
And eagle-eyed tourists can now play spot the celebrity at locations
around Europe, as the cast and crew have been caught at the Monaco
Grand Prix, touring the starting grid, as well as in the famous
Piazza Navona, in Rome.
Yet not everything has gone as smoothly as one might imagine.
According to one comical report, earlier this year, Brad Pitt
and George Clooney were refused entry to the hotel they were staying
at, after returning from a rain-soaked jog, and being refused
admission by an over-eager concierge, who thought the dishevelled
duo were vagrants!
That aside, the cool vibe surrounding the project shows no sign
of abating and the film looks set to become another massive hit
for distributor, Warner Bros.
For the record, Catherine Zeta-Jones is reported to be playing
the ex-wife of Brad Pitts character - which could lead to
yet more verbal fireworks when the pair reunite onscreen.
