A NEW version of Mel Gibson's
The Passion of The Christ
is to be released in UK cinemas this Easter, from Friday, March
25, 2005.
The new film, entitled The Passion - Recut, is approximately
six minutes shorter than the original and has been awarded a certificate
15 from the BBFC.
The Passion of The Christ, released in cinemas in March 2004,
was an 18 certificate.
Following the phenomenal success of The Passion of The Christ
across the world in 2004, director, Mel Gibson, has assembled
a new slightly 'softer' version of his film that he hopes will
appeal to those who thought the intensity of the original film
was prohibitive.

"I hope to cater to those people
that perhaps might not have seen the original because of it's
intensity or brutality," commented Mel Gibson.
Directed, produced and co-written by Gibson, the film stars Jim
Caviezel as Jesus Of Nazareth, Monica Bellucci as Mary Magdalene,
Maia Morgenstern as Mary, Mattia Sbragia as Caiphas, the High
Priest, Hristo Naumov Shopov as Pontius Pilate, Claudia Gerini
as Claudia Procles, Pilate's wife, Sergio Rubini as Dismas and
Luca Lionello as Judas Iscariot.
The Passion of the Christ caused widespread controversy when
it was released last year but went on to become a box office phenomenon
across the globe.
Its impact was such that the American Film Institute (AFI) has
since declared it a landmark
film.
