Although full casting has yet to
be finalised (Homicide's Andre Braugher is still being lined up
to play the ship's captain), a report on Empire Online does reveal
a little bit about the roles each actor will play.
The Poseidon Adventure was, of course, the 1972 film about a
cruise liner that was overturned by a tidal wave, forcing an intrepid
bunch of survivors (led by Gene Hackman) to make their way to
the ship's hull in the hope of finding an exit.
The remake is expected to follow pretty much the same format,
while employing ever more special effects.
Russell will apparently portray an ex-fireman travelling on the
ship with his daughter, played by Rossum (of Phantom
of the Opera, Day After
Tomorrow fame).
While Dreyfuss will portray a gay man whose relationship has
recently ended.
The film has already been given a tentative release date of May
5, 2006.
