Tribute by Jack Foley
ONE
of the original and one of the best 'damsels-in distress', blonde bombshell
Daphne Blake first appeared on television on September 13, 1969.
Aged just 16-years-old and 5ft 7ins tall, Daphne bubbles with a resilient spirit and is keen on becoming a mystery writer. Her father's wealth allows Mystery Inc, the privilege of using the Mystery Machine, boats, wireless radios and other devices. Daphne's single drawback lies in her danger-prone nature. She is truly trouble's target.
Her favourite phrases in the cartoons include, 'Jeepers!', 'Would you do
it for A Scooby Snack,' and 'This place gives me goosebumps'. Daphne's voice
is played by Heather North.
In Scooby Doo, the movie, she is played by none other than Buffy the Vampire
Slayer herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar and is transformed from a kidnap-prone
bimbo to an arse-kicking super-babe, capable of mixing it with the best of
Scooby's enemies. What better reason, then, to pay tribute to Daphne herself....
Mrs Gellar.
Some really useless Daphne facts:

a writer for a mystery magazine.
l The Mystery Mobile belongs to Daphne's dad,
but for some reason Fred always gets to drive.
l Daphne's Uncle Maxwell is a director of Hollywood
horror movies.
l Daphne just laughs at Scooby's 'fraidy-cat
ways.
lEven after Fred and Velma left the gang, Daphne
stayed on to solve mysteries with Shaggy and Scooby.
lVelma and Daphne share a passion for solving
mysteries.
And some
equally useless Sarah Michelle Gellar facts:
l She was born on April 14, 1977.
l She loves watching The Princess Bride.
l She appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman
when she was only five
l She used to be a competitive figure skater.

of movies, and won an Emmy for her work on All My Children.
l She recently married Scooby
Doo co-star Freddie Prinze Jr, breaking the hearts of yong male suitors
the world over.
l She has been voted the World's Sexiest Woman
by readers of FHM magazine.
l One of the most eagerly anticipated scenes
from the Scooby Doo movie - involving a spot of tonsil tennis between Gellar
and co-star Linda Cardellini (Velma) during a 'protoplasmic' mishap - has
been cut from the release following complaints from parents at test screenings.
l The actress is no stranger to on-screen lesbian
snogging, having swapped saliva with Selma Blair in Cruel Intentions (she
admits there was a saliva trail!).
