Story by Jack Foley
THE
stars of Spiderman left audiences in a spin when they turned out in force
for the UK premiere of the movie at Londons Leicester Square on Wednesday
night (5/6/02).
Torrential rain failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the massed crowds as they
bid to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten
Dunst.
The glittering occasion comes a week before the film is due to open in the
UK, having already taken £80 million in its first weekend in the States,
making it the fifth highest grossing film of all time - already.
Also court on the spin generated by the movie were celebrities such as supermodel
Jodie Kidd, who wore her own spider outfit, Amanda Holden, Richard Branson,
Vic Reeves, Nell McAndrew, Frank Skinner, Nick Faldo and Gareth Gates.
The after-show party, which took place at the In and Out Club afterwards, was also attended by another Big Screen heart-throb, Leonardo DiCaprio, who is a close friend of the movies main star, Maguire.
Maguire, speaking at a press conference at Londons Dorchester Hotel the day after, said Spiderman represented a dream come true for him, which was as much a character-driven affair as a summer event movie.
Swing on by next week to read indielondons verdict on the film, as
well as details of the press conference with stars Maguire and Dunst.
