Review by Tom O'Riordan |
FOR A restaurant with stunning views of Old London, for very special occasions, why not try the Brasserie on the eighth floor of the Oxo Tower. A stone's throw from the London Eye, let the red neon art deco-style Oxo sign lead you to its doors... or elevator should I say.
Yes, when you walk in, it does feel a little 'Posh', but why not spoil yourself once in a while and let the waiters serve you as you drool over the exterior scenery? Decked out in clinical light blues, brilliant whites and stainless steel, the colour comes from the food that is served to you on Oxo plates, while you drink from Oxo glasses and light your cigarette with Oxo matches, the presentation is fantastic.
I can guarantee that whatever you order, the taste will be exquisite. For starters, we enjoyed crab and pumpkin Chinese-style spring rolls and a king prawn dish; for main steamed cod with sweet potato and pork belly with apple and veg accompaniment.
Obviously, the description of the food on the menu is a little bit more elaborate than my recollections. We shared a dessert of sticky toffee pudding and had the cheapest bottle of red wine (Oxo Merlot £15). Total cost was £84, which included service.
As I said previously, for special occasions this is both affordable and with the added view, a must. Rather than leaving a restaurant feeling bloated , let your belly saunter over the top of your jeans with vivid, lipsmacking grub mooching around inside. There is a special before 7pm where a set menu will cost you £20 per head.
