Photos released of Richard II in the House of Commons

RICHARD II, reimagined as a Westminster power struggle, was staged in the House of Commons on Saturday, April 23, 2016, the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.

It was the first-ever performance of a Shakespeare play in the Palace of Westminster, and celebrated four centuries of the writer at the centre of Britain’s national culture, in the centre of its national politics.

Tim Delap was Richard, the charismatic leader who faces a challenge from Harri Bolingbroke (Hermione Gulliford), reimagined in this new version as a female Leader of the Opposition.

8,500 people applied for one of the 100 golden tickets.

The production now transfers from Westminster to the East End for a week-long run at Arcola Theatre – May 3 to May 7.
