Review: Jack Foley
BOY band nightmares, Busted, probably haven't got enough material
to release a greatest hits album, but that hasn't stopped them
trying to cash in on the pre-Christmas lust for everything compilation
by putting out a live album featuring snippets from their recent
sold-out tour.
As you can imagine, it's a pretty tedious affair that takes in
all the tracks they have become famous (or renowned) for.
Hence, the mainstream, chart-friendly, generic likes of Air Hostess,
Year 3000 and Thunderbirds Are Go all get a
look in, as does first single, What I Go To School For
and their cover of The Undertones' Teenage Kicks.
In terms of style, Busted clearly yearn for the type of success
that Sum 41, Green Day and their kind enjoy, but their sound is
too young, too commercial, and simply too bland to mark them out
as anything other than copycats.
The live album is an excruciating experience for anyone who likes
to take their music seriously.
