THE groundbreaking Help charity album - the
fastest-ever number one hit in UK music history - is now available
online, to celebrate the launch of www.warchildmusic.com,
the unique new website selling exclusive downloads in aid of the
War Child charity’s global relief work.
The Help album - featuring such bands as Radiohead, Oasis, The
Manic Street Preachers, Blur, The Charlatans, Massive Attack,
The Stone Roses and The Chemical Brothers - was recorded on Monday,
September 4, 1995 and rush-released the following Saturday.
By the next day, Help was number one in the UK chart - all on
the strength of one day’s sales.
Help raised some £1.25 million to help children caught
up in the war in the former Yugoslavia.
Once the album was no longer available in stores, however, it
became a much sought-after collectors’ item, an important
chronicle of UK music at the very height of Britpop.

That persistent demand has now resulted
in Help’s re-appearance, this time spearheading the launch
of www.warchildmusic.com
The entire of Help - all 20 tracks plus artwork – is exclusively
available to download for £3.50. Individual tracks cost
99p each.
The website also includes the comprehensive track-by-track lowdown
on the making of Help.
The Help project comes as the prelude to War Child Music’s
bespoke monthly music download service, set to start in September.
The website will offer a monthly flow of exclusive new music
from many of the world’s finest acts.
Tracks will be available for 99p per track, or £3.50 for
an ‘all you can eat’ monthly subscription.
All profits will go directly to helping children in the world’s
most troubled regions.
The website is the brainchild of www.warchildmusic.com
managing director, James Topham, and editorial director, Ben Knowles,
formerly the editor of the NME.
Comments Topham: "Every track - and we’re after everything
from covers to acoustic versions, live recordings, alternative
mixes, remixes or simply unreleased tunes - will be exclusive
to War Child Music.
"This is an ongoing project which we’re sure will
quickly become essential for artists and fans alike."
