Chicks on Speed discover some loose change

Story: Jack Foley

CHICKS On Speed mark their long awaited return with the release of a new single on their own Chicks On Speed Records thro' Labels on September 29.

We Don't Play Guitars is the first single to be lifted from the forthcoming new album, 99 Cents.

Their third long player, 99 Cents follows The Re - Releases Of The Un - Releases compilation and 2000's acclaimed debut, Will Save Us All.

Written and recorded in their hometown of Berlin, by the Chicks On Speed line-up of Kiki Moorse, Melissa Logan and Alex Murray-Leslie, the new album sees the band collaborate with a number of their favourite musicians, including Miss Kittin, Le Tigre, Nicola from Adult and Talking Heads' / Tom Tom Club's Tina Weymouth, who teams up with them for a take on her own 1981 classic, Wordy Rappinghood.

Released on CD and 12" vinyl, We Don't Play Guitars features another guest appearance, this time from Peaches. It comes backed with mixes by the likes of Tiefschwarz, Christopher Just, Chicken Lips and Cristian Vogel.

Chicks on Speed, who began as a fake band at The Munich Art Academy in 1997, have explored and exploited all facets of music and art since releasing their debut 7" Warm Leatherette in 1998.

The trio have created their own personal, international, 'do it yourself' melting pot style and have more than established themselves in the fields of pop music, fashion and art.

The band publish a book in October 2003, entitled Chicks on Speed, It´s a project!, with London publisher Booth-Clibborn.

A book launch and exhibition tour is planned for October 2003, continuing into 2004 at Deitch Project Space in New York, Palais de Tokyo in Paris and Von Rot in Berlin.
