Story: Jack Foley
HOTLY-tipped UK band, The Magic Numbers, have announced a series
of headline dates, plus support slots, designed to further their
growing reputation.
The four-piece, whose only release to date has been a limited
edition 7" which sold out, and who crop up on the new Chemical
Brothers album, have been selling out small venues across
the capital for some months.
Now, however, the band - comprised of singer, Romeo, his sister,
Michele (bass), Sean (drums) and his sister, Angela (percussion,
melodica and third vocals) - intend to get much bigger a whole
lot quicker.
Dates to look out for include a headline show at the Kentish
Town Forum, as well as club dates as Bush Hall and Camden's Barfly,
not to mention a number of support slots alongside the likes of
Athlete, Doves and The Tears.
In addition, the band will be touring extensively over the next
few months, with plenty of UK dates to choose from.
According to the band's website, The Magic Numbers draw inspiration
from many sources, including singer songwriters (Cohen, Dylan),
60's harmony groups (Mamas & Papas, Lovin Spoonful), epic
rock or such mavericks as David Axelrod.
The band craft a sound which like Flaming Lips or Beck, is coming
from everywhere but is uniquely theirs.
