THE mysterious Magnet, aka Even Johansen – another resident
of the Norwegian hit-factory town of Bergen, Norway - returns
with his new single, Hold On, on August 15 on Atlantic
Records.
The track is taken from his forthcoming second album The
Tourniquet (on August 22), the follow up to the massively
acclaimed debut On Your Side.
On Your Side confirmed Johansen's songwriting ability
as being rich and unique, displaying the ability to tap into the
human vein; of life, love and loss.
It picked up rave reviews along the way, major appreciation in
the world of dance, and helped Johansen to becomeg a major star
in his native Norway.
His music has since been used to soundtrack teen angst on The
O.C, as well as weird adult angst on Six Feet Under (and infact
many other TV shows/films), while providing him with one of the
sleeper hits of the year with his cover of Dylan’s seminal
Lay Lady Lay, a duet with Irish songstress, Gemma Hayes
(itself currently featured in the Pitt/Jolie Hollywood smash Mr
& Mrs Smith).

Whilst plaudits, pundits, music lovers
and human beings in general found solace and comfort in the trademark
Magnet melancholica of On Your Side, The Tourniquet is
being billed as not so much a record soaked in optimism, but one
reborn in it.
Hold On will open the album with searing anthemic invigoration.
“I’m not on my own, you are not alone, it’s
just hard sometimes,” croons the Magnet, re-inviting you
on a warm and aspirational journey just like The Beach Boys, Nilsson,
The Beatles and other classic artists did so well.
"For me, it’s like a soul ballad, with a Beach Boys
outro, and it means? Well I think it means what all good soul
ballads mean – there are good times a comin’!"
he says of the track.
Magnet will return to the UK with a special series of live dates
later this summer.
Hold On comes backed with a series of special new tracks
on a collectable 7” series and is released on August 15.
