Story: Jack Foley
THE lady with the big, big, big... enigmatic voice is coming
back to the UK in February to play a series of intimate acoustic
shows to preview the release of her self-titled debut album later
this year.
The star in waiting daughter of folk legends, Loudon Wainwright
and Kate McGarrigle, and sister of Rufus Wainwright, whom she
opened for in the UK in November, returns to the UK for her first
headline tour in
February, and will be at London's Barfly on February 21.
Tickets for all shows are £6 in advance and doors are 8pm
- although they are expected to sell fast, so early booking is
essential.

These intimate dates will see Martha
playing acoustic to coincide with the first single from the album,
Factory, which is released on March 21, through Drowned
in Sound Recordings, to coincide with a performance at SxSw.
Martha's self-titled debut album is due in April 2005, but she
also features on the soundtrack to indie-flick P.S.
The 28-year-old singer was born in Montreal but currently lives
in New York.
February dates:
21 - London, Barfly
22 - Manchester, Night & Day
24 - Glasgow, Brel
25 - Birmingham, Glee Club
Fans wanting to catch an earlier glimpse of Martha, however,
need look no further than the new Martin Scorsese blockbuster,
The Aviator.
Martha, and her brother, Rufus, and their father, Loudon, all
perform in the bar and feature on the soundtrack.
The movie was released in London on Boxing Day and goes nationwide
on January 6, 2005.
