Dick Whittington and His Cat - Hackney Empire

Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle

FOLLOWING the success of last year’s roaring Twenties version of Cinderella, Hackney Empire is presenting a “rip roaring swashbuckling” version of Dick Whittington and His Cat – from December 1, 2007 to January 12, 2008.

Written and directed by Susie McKenna, Dick Whittington and His Cat is described as Jack Sparrow meets Indiana Jones with a big dash of West End spectacle all set in Medieval London.

The cast includes Olivier Award-winning Clive Rowe (Chicago, Caroline, or Change, Into the Woods) as Sarah the Cook; David Ashley, the tall half of last year’s Ugly Sisters, as King Rat; and Tameka Empson (Beautiful Thing, Three Non Blondes, The Big Life) as Fairy Bowbells.

Hackney Panto favourite, MTV/Choice FM star Kat, plays Idle Jack and Tony Whittle returns to the Hackney panto stage for the first time since 1999, playing Aldeman Fitzwarren. And in the title role is Hannah Jane Fox who last appeared on the London stage playing Scaramouche in We Will Rock You.

Joining them are Sophia Ragavelas (Mamma Mia, The Lion King, Les Miserables) as Alice and Mike Denman ( Chicago) as the Cat.

Musical direction is by Steven Edis, costume and set design by Lotte Collett and choreography by Carl Parris.

Tickets: £19.50 – £9.50 plus concessions.

Time: varies.
