Preview by Jack Foley
AGE-Sex-Location, Marcus Markou's darkly comic play set
in cyberspace, will be staged at the Riverside Studios, in
Hammersmith, from February 9 - 28, 2004 (for three weeks), prior
to transferring to the West End.
Age-Sex-Location sees the internet and virtual reality
come alive in a production that combines writer Marcus Markou's
entertaining script, with Sven Ortel's state-of-the-art video
projection and lighting design, under the direction of award-winning
young director, Pip Pickering.
We all wear masks in real life, when dealing with others, and
the internet provides us with a more effective one, as we project
a chosen image through our computer.
But what if you can walk through the screen with not so much
a mask, as a new body? Virtual reality promises us a new heaven
until a serpent gets in and you find you're trapped in cyber hell.

Age-Sex-Location was given a staged reading at the Arts
Theatre this Summer, and has attracted considerable attention,
as well as a creative team that includes Pip Pickering (A Dangerous
Woman, Who's Harry, The Wake, The Vortex) and Sven Ortel,
whose company Mesmer (co-run with Dick Straker) has been responsible
for the video design realisation on a string of National Theatre
productions - the award-winning Coast of Utopia trilogy,
Jerry Springer -
the Opera, The Powerbook, Jumpers - and the Royal Court's
West End hit, Hitchcock Blonde.
Age-Sex-Location is described in the publicity as 'the
Look Back in Anger of the 21st Century'.
It promises to be a mould-breaking play that opens a whole new
potential for how theatre can reach today's audiences. It combines
the best of drama with a radical approach to presenting a story.
The cast includes Ed Stoppard (recently seen in Roman Polanski's
The Pianist), Ewen Macintosh
(better known as 'Keith' in the BBC hit The Office), and
Jane How (known as 'Jan' - Dirty Den's mistress in Eastenders).
Age-Sex-Location is produced by Titus Media Ltd and runs at
the Riverside Studios in Hammersmith, from February 9 - 28, 2004.
Details of West End transfer to be announced next year. Box Office:
