THE EUROPEAN premiere of Nilo Cruz's Broadway play, Anna
in the Tropics, which won the 2003 Pulitzer Prize, opens
on November 30, 2004 (previews from November 25) at Hampstead
Theatre where it will run for a limited season until January 8,
2005.
Starring in Indhu Rubasingham's new production, will be Diana
Quick and Joseph Mydell.
A lyrical play, Anna in the Tropics is set in the 1920's,
in a family-run cigar factory in Tampa, Florida and where, in
accordance with tradition, a 'lector' is employed to read aloud
to the workers.

Anna Karenina is the lector's
chosen book and the heady mix of Tolstoy's intrigues, the tropical
heat and the allure of the American dream, in what then, was the
heart of Cuban America, creates a volatile mix of emotions.
Diana Quick who takes on the role of Ofelia, has appeared on-screen
in Brideshead Revisited, The Woman in White, Rasputin, Nostradamus
and Saving Grace.
And for her work in theatre, she has won the TMA Best Actress
Award and a Whatsonstage.com Best Actress nomination for Ghosts
and After Mrs Rochester respectively.
Joseph Mydell has appeared in Twelfth Night and The
Prisoner's Dilemma for the RSC and in Alice Adventures
Underground and Angels in America at the National
Theatre.
Further casting has yet to be announced.
