Irish playwright, Samuel Beckett, and Lucia Joyce, the mentally
unstable daughter of novelist James Joyce, has posted closing
notices just one month after its world premiere.

Michael Hastings' Calico, which stars I
Capture The Castle actress, Romola Garai and Dermot Crowley,
opened at the Duke of Yorks Theatre on March 3, and had
been booking up to May 29, but will now close on April 3, following
mixed notices and disappointing ticket sales.
The production, directed by Edward Hall, cast the emerging Garai
as Lucia Joyce, with Crowley and Imelda Staunton, as her parents,
James Joyce and Nora Barnacle. Daniel Weyman portrayed Beckett.
Hastings play is due to be followed at the Duke of Yorks
by Laurence Boswells production of Simon Grays The
Holy Terror, which stars Simon Callow.
It has recently completed a regional tour, including a stop-off
at Richmond, where it drew considerable, but not overwhelming,
acclaim.
